Family & restorative dentistry

Dentistry explained before it begins.

A small two-surgery practice built around longer appointments. You will know what we found, what we recommend and what it costs — in writing — before anything is booked.

  • Evening clinic Tuesday and Thursday until 8pm, for appointments that do not fit a working day.
  • Nervous patients Longer first visits with no treatment on the day unless you ask for it.
  • Written plans Every recommendation arrives as an itemised plan you can take away and think about.

How it works

Your first visit, step by step

Most people put off dentistry because they do not know what will happen. Here is the whole sequence, in order, before you book anything.

  1. 01

Tell us what prompted the visit

The request form asks for one line about why you are coming in — a chipped tooth, a check-up after a few years away, or wanting to discuss straightening. It decides how long we set aside.

  2. 02

    Health and history review

We go through medication, past dental work, grinding, sensitivity and anything that makes appointments difficult. Bring a list of medicines if it is easier than remembering.

  3. 03

Examination, photographs and X-rays if needed

Teeth, gums, bite and soft tissues are checked and charted. Photographs are taken on a small intraoral camera so you can see the same thing we are looking at on screen.

  4. 04

    Findings and an itemised plan

We explain what is urgent, what can be monitored and what is optional. You leave with a written plan, the sequence of visits and the cost of each stage. Nothing is booked under pressure.

  5. 05

    Treatment at your pace

Longer appointments mean most work is completed in fewer visits. If you prefer to split a plan across several months for comfort or budget, we sequence it that way.

  6. 06

A recall interval that suits you

Depending on gum health and risk, your recall is set between three and twenty-four months. We write down why, and adjust it as things improve.

What we do, and how long it takes

Whitening, veneers and denture work are also available and are discussed at an examination rather than booked blind, because suitability depends on gum health first.

The practice

Two surgeries, deliberately few appointments

We book fifty minutes where most practices book twenty. It is the only way I know to explain a plan properly and still finish the work calmly.

Pine Quill was set up by Dr Marisol Vane after fifteen years in larger mixed practices, with a simple rule: no appointment should feel like it is being rushed to the next one. There are two surgeries, one hygienist room, and a small team who you will recognise on every visit.

We treat whole families, from first visits for toddlers through to restorative work and implants. Records, photographs and plans stay with one clinician, so nobody has to re-explain their history at the door.

Questions

Asked at the front desk most weeks

How do I know what a treatment will cost?

After an examination you receive an itemised written plan listing each stage and its cost. Nothing beyond the examination and any X-rays is charged without you agreeing to the plan first. If a plan changes mid-course, you get a revised estimate before we continue.

I have avoided the dentist for years. Will the first visit involve treatment?

No, unless you ask. The first appointment is an examination and a conversation. Many people book a second, short visit just to talk through the plan before anything starts. Tell us in the notes field and we will set aside extra time.

What should I do about pain or a broken tooth today?

Send a request marked as an emergency and describe the problem. We hold slots each weekday morning for pain, swelling, lost fillings and broken front teeth. Until you are seen, keep the area clean, avoid very hot or cold food, and use your usual pain relief as directed on the packet.

From what age should children come in?

Around their first birthday, or whenever the first teeth appear. Early visits are short, involve counting and a look with a mirror, and exist mainly so the chair becomes ordinary. Fluoride varnish and bite monitoring start later, once a child is comfortable.

Can you take my records from a previous dentist?

Yes. Put your previous practice name in the notes field and we will request your charting, radiographs and any recent plans. You do not need to chase them yourself, and we will examine you regardless of whether the records arrive in time.

How often will I need to come back?

Recalls range from three to twenty-four months depending on gum health, decay risk, grinding and smoking. We write the interval and the reason into your plan, and shorten or lengthen it as things change rather than defaulting everybody to six months.

Is dental treatment safe during pregnancy?

Routine check-ups and hygiene visits are encouraged, since gums often become more sensitive. Tell us how many weeks you are at booking so we can position the chair comfortably, keep appointments shorter and defer any non-urgent X-rays or elective work.

Am I suitable for clear aligners?

Aligners work well for mild to moderate crowding, spacing and relapse after childhood braces. They are not suitable if gum disease is active or if the bite needs significant correction. Suitability is assessed at an examination with photographs, and we will say plainly if fixed braces would give a better result.

Send a request, we reply with times

This is a request, not a confirmed booking. The practice replies with two or three times that fit what you have described, and you choose one.

  • New patients are given a longer first appointment by default.
  • Emergencies are triaged first thing each weekday morning.
  • Evening clinic times go to people who cannot attend during the day.
  • If you would rather not be examined on the first visit, say so in the notes.

We use these details only to arrange your appointment and to request records if you have asked us to.
